The idea of a baby shower was not originally to give the
baby a bath, but to shower the mother-to-be with gifts that will help with the
raising of the new child. Traditionally, they are given before the baby is
born, but today baby showers can be given after the baby is born. The ultimate
reasoning in baby showers is to help the new mother with the expense of having
a new child. These gifts may be in the form of money or specific items for the
baby. In today’s society you are hearing of more unusual baby shower gifts.
Anything is acceptable as long as it is tasteful and respectful to the
expectant mother.
A Gift To Destress
One of the more unusual baby shower gifts is a check for
$25,000. This money is designated for the baby’s college education. When you are
opening up gifts of quilts and sleepers, opening up a box with baby’s future
education in it, certainly declares it as an unusual baby shower gift. Another
example of an unusual baby shower gift is a spa package for mom and dad to
distress for a day. This baby gift usually includes a babysitter for the day as
well. A gift certificate for two at a lovely restaurant is also considered a
highly unusual baby shower gift. A trip for three to Disney World in 6 years is
also very unusual, as is a bike for the new baby. A majority of these unusual

men into the mix of baby showers, there is no telling what kinds of gifts the
expectant mother may open. Sometimes at a baby shower where the expectant
mother is having her third or sixth child, these highly unusual baby shower
gifts may not be so unusual. When you are invited to a baby shower where the
mom already has three children, you may have to be creative to come up with an
item she already does not have.
When men are involved in baby showers, there is no telling
what kind of gifts appear. Huge stuffed gorillas or ponies and remote control
hummers are the type of unusual gifts at the baby showers where men are in
attendance. Sports equipment, tents and sometimes even cases of wine are given
at these showers. Baby shower gifts are traditionally for the baby and
sometimes they include other siblings or the mother. Anything else out of the
realm of baby bottles, strollers, clothing, quilts, teethers, baby toys and
everything else baby related, is totally an unusual baby shower gift.
