The Perfect Gift For A Baby’s Shower
An upcoming arrival of a newborn baby is a life changing
experience for everyone involved. With
the birth of a baby there are new parents, new grandparents, aunts, uncles and
cousins all waiting eagerly for the arrival of the tiny bundle of love. Traditionally in the United
States, the mother-to-be is given a baby
shower to welcome the new addition to the family and to help prepare her for
her new role as a “mother”. Baby shower
gifts are fun to purchase and there are many different ideas to choose from while
shopping.
Who Should Host A Baby Shower
The traditional baby shower is a special party that focuses
on the baby and mother-to-be. It is an
occasion of celebration and joy that is usually hosted by a best friend or
family member of the mother-to-be.
Historically, it was not proper etiquette for an immediate family member
to host a baby showers but in recent years, those traditions have become
obsolete and the general practice is to allow anyone who wants to host the
shower to do so. The baby shower generally
last about two hours and includes games, dessert and the opening of baby shower
gifts by the Mother-to-be. Each invited
guest is generally expected to bring a baby shower gift for the baby or
mother-to-be.
Try To Be Creative With Themed Baby Shower Gifts
Baby shower gifts are generally items that focus on basic
supplies and clothes items that the baby will need during its first year. Often baby shower gifts are theme focused,
providing a well-rounded gift for the baby for a certain time of day or a specific
activity. An example of this might be a
“bath time” gift theme that could include a baby bathtub, shampoos, bath toys,
baby towels and washcloths, a bath puppet, sponge and bath thermometer. Another baby shower gift idea might be a
“feeding time” theme that could include baby bottles, baby spoons, dinnerware,
bibs, bottle cleaner brush, sippy cups, and variety of baby food that included
different flavors and stages of development, baby cereals and other such
dinnertime items.
What Size Is The Right Size?
Clothes are often a very popular gift idea for a baby
shower; people tend to “ooh” and “ahh” over the tiny sizes and the different
fashions that are produced in the baby fashion market. If deciding to purchase cloth items for a
baby shower gift for the newborn, it is often a good idea to purchase sizes
that are 6-12 months or higher as babies generally grown quickly and only get
to wear items once or twice when purchased in the “newborn” sizes. Sizes for baby clothes are classified by the
months of age rather than the size of the body.
However, many babies never actually fit into the specific months size at
the correct month of age. Babies tend to
outgrow the newborn clothes within the first few weeks or as is often the case,
many babies today are born weighing over nine pounds and don’t even fit into
the newborn sizes at the time of their birth.
When shopping for babies, it is often a good rule of thumb to purchase
large enough to allow growth rather than to purchase too small and have the baby
never actually wear the baby shower gift.
If concerned, it is often best to contact the host/hostess of the baby
shower to see if there is a specific size of clothing the mother-to-be needs
for the baby.
